It seems as though the presidential campaign season has gone on for years. Few people we’ve talked to are happy with either candidate, but as the election gets closer, we’re finding that the candidates are even worse than we thought, the media is even more biased than we thought and the country is in even greater danger than we thought.
Consider just a few issues that have led us to these conclusions:
Deny, Deny, Deny. With the election just weeks away, media have been publishing stories about Donald Trump’s womanizing, which raises a few questions:
Is anyone surprised that Donald Trump is a womanizer?
Where have these tapes and wronged women been for all of these years? Why are they emerging now, just before the election?
The Donald has followed the Hillary playbook, which can be summarized as “Deny, deny, deny.” It works for her … why doesn’t it work for him?
Does anyone anywhere still think the media is objective? On any given day, how many stories do you read or watch that are critical of Clinton? How many do you read or watch that are critical of Trump?
If the primaries started over today, would Donald Trump have a chance of being the Republican nominee?
Why does Hillary Clinton attack Donald Trump for being a womanizer, but forgive Bill Clinton for being a womanizer—and even attack some of his victims?
In today’s Internet age, nothing is private anymore. Would your opinion of President Kennedy be any different today if his private life were as public as that of today’s candidates?
The Alinsky Connection. Saul Alinsky is turning out to be among the most influential men in American history. You may have heard of Alinsky as an “activist” and author of Rules for Radicals.
Among Alinsky’s disciples were both Barack Obama and Hillary Clinton. Ms. Clinton even wrote her thesis about him, so her election will almost certainly be a continuation of President Obama’s policies. When she says so, it is one time that she is most likely telling the truth.
Alinsky, who became close friends with Al Capone’s number two man, Frank Nitti, wrote his doctoral dissertation about the Chicago mob—and he used many of the mob’s principles in Rules for Radicals.
Can’t Get No Satisfaction. A recent Gallup poll found that only 28% of Americans are satisfied with the current path of their country, which is close to an all-time low.
“With so few people ‘satisfied’ with their current predicament,” Zero Hedge noted, “it would seem ironic that Americans are poised to effectively extend the Obama administration for another four years.”
Gallup notes that satisfaction was at similar levels back in 2012 when Obama easily won a second a term in the White House.
Broken down by party, 49% of Democrats, 24% of independents and 8% of Republicans are satisfied with the country’s direction. Four years ago, 53% of Democrats, 29% of independents and 7% of Republicans were satisfied with the direction of the country.
It will be interesting to see how those numbers change after the election.
